The latest Impala debuted for 2014, but crossovers and SUVs were the market trends, which makes the traditional full-size sedan out of production and in extinction. The video above shows you where the jack and jack kit is located in your Impala how to assemble the components of the jack kit and safety precautions to take when using your jack. Most Chevrolet jack kits include the jack, a jack handle and a lug nut wrench. If you have a flat tire in your Chevrolet Impala, please see our how do I fix a flat tire video. While following the instructions provided in your Impala's owners manual and in this video will help minimize the risk of injury. The best way to avoid injury is to never get under your vehicle while it is jacked up. Remember also, that even if your car is jacked up properly, another car could hit it and knock it over; therefore, be sure to give careful consideration to your environment before raising your car. It is an alphabetical list of what is in the manual and the page number where it can be found. Safety Warnings and Symbols There are a number of safety cautions in this book. Notice: These mean there is something that could damage your vehicle. A notice tells about something that can damage the vehicle. Many times, this damage would not be covered by your vehicle’s warranty, and it could be costly. Pull up on the lever to unlock the seat. Slide the seat to where you want it and release the lever.

CAUTION: You can lose control of the vehicle if you try to adjust a manual driver’s seat while the vehicle. The sudden movement could startle and confuse you, or make you push a pedal when you do not want to. Adjust the driver’s seat only when the vehicle is not moving. Even if you buckle up, your safety belts cannot do their job when you are reclined like this. The shoulder belt cannot do its job because it will not be against your body. This position reduces the chance of a neck injury in a crash.Be sure to return the seat to the passenger seating position. Push and pull on the seat to make sure it is locked into place. Use the strap to guide the seat forward. To return the seat to the original position, do the following: 1. One is located below the front of the seat. The other lever is located on the rear of the seat. Nylon Strap To fold the seatback forward, do the following: 1. Pull the nylon strap, located on the rear right hand side of the seat, or lift the recline lever, located on the front right hand side of the seatback to release the seatback. Removing the Bucket Seats To remove the bucket seats, do the following: 1. This should be done in one motion. CAUTION: If the seatback is not locked, it could move forward in a sudden stop or crash. That could cause injury to the person sitting there. Always push and pull on the seatback to be sure it is locked. If your vehicle has captain chairs with side impact airbags, they will have one armrest on the inboard side. Removing a Captain Chair (without a Side Impact Airbag) If your vehicle has captain chairs with side impact airbags, the seats cannot be removed. The person wearing the belt could be seriously injured. After installing the seat, always check to be sure that the safety belts are properly routed and attached, and are not twisted. People in the vehicle could be injured. Always unbuckle the safety belts and return them to their normal stowed position before folding a rear seat.

For ease of removing the seat, squeeze the handle with the palm of your hand up. 5. It also tells you some things you should not do with safety belts. CAUTION: Do not let anyone ride where he or she cannot wear a safety belt properly. Put someone on it. Take the simplest vehicle. Suppose it is just a seat on wheels. 1-24. The rider does not stop. The person keeps going until stopped by something. In a real vehicle, it could be the windshield. 1-25. With safety belts, you slow down as the vehicle does. You get more time to stop. You stop over more distance, and your strongest bones take the forces. That is why safety belts make such good sense. You could be — whether you are wearing a safety belt or not. But your chance of being conscious during and after an accident, so you can unbuckle and get out, is much greater if you are belted. Be aware that there are special things to know about safety belts and children. And there are different rules for smaller children and babies. If a child will be riding in your vehicle, see Older Children on page 1-42 or Infants and Young Children on page 1-46. The shoulder belt is too loose. It will not give nearly as much protection this way. CAUTION: You can be seriously hurt if your shoulder belt is too loose. In a crash, you would move forward too much, which could increase injury. The lap belt is too loose. It will not give as much protection this way. 1-30 CAUTION: You can be seriously hurt if your lap belt is too loose. In a crash, you could slide under the lap belt and apply force on your abdomen. The belt is buckled in the wrong place. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if your belt is buckled in the wrong place like this. In a crash, the belt would go up over your abdomen. The belt forces would be there, not on the pelvic bones. The belt is over an armrest. 1-32 CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if your belt goes over an armrest like this. The belt would be much too high. In a crash, you can slide under the belt.

The shoulder belt is worn under the arm. It should be worn over the shoulder at all times. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if you wear the shoulder belt under your arm. In a crash, your body would move too far forward, which would increase the chance of head and neck injury. The belt is behind the body. 1-34 CAUTION: You can be seriously injured by not wearing the lap-shoulder belt properly. In a crash, you would not be restrained by the shoulder belt. Your body could move too far forward increasing the chance of head and neck injury. The belt is twisted across the body. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured by a twisted belt. In a crash, you would not have the full width of the belt to spread impact forces. Here is how to wear a lap-shoulder belt properly. 1. Adjust the seat, if the seat is adjustable, so you can sit up straight. To see how, see “Seats” in the Index. 2. It may be necessary to pull stitching on the safety belt through the latch plate to fully tighten the lap belt on smaller occupants. To unlatch the belt, push the button on the buckle. The belt should go back out of the way. Adjust the height so that the shoulder portion of the belt is centered on your shoulder. The belt should be away from your face and neck, but not falling off your shoulder. If your vehicle has a third row, there is one guide for each outboard position. Here is how to install a comfort guide to the shoulder belt: 2. Place the guide over the belt and insert the two edges of the belt into the slots of the guide. The elastic cord must be under the belt and the guide on top. 1-40 CAUTION: A safety belt that is not properly worn may not provide the protection needed in a crash. The person wearing the belt could be seriously injured. Make sure that the shoulder belt crosses the shoulder. To remove and store the comfort guide, squeeze the belt edges together so that you can take them out of the guide.

When you go in to order it, take the heaviest coat you will wear, so the extender will be long enough for you. Do the knees bend at the seat edge. If yes, continue. Here two children are wearing the same belt. The belt cannot properly spread the impact forces. In a crash, the two children can be crushed together and seriously injured. A belt must be used by only one person at a time. 1-44. Here a child is sitting in a seat that has a lap-shoulder belt, but the shoulder part is behind the child. In a crash, the child would not be restrained by the shoulder belt. The child might slide under the lap belt. The belt force would then be applied right on the abdomen. This includes infants and all other children. Neither the distance traveled nor the age and size of the traveler changes the need, for everyone, to use safety restraints. In fact, the law in every state in the United States and in every Canadian province says children up to some age must be restrained while in a vehicle. Airbags plus lap-shoulder belts offer protection for adults and older children, but not for young children and infants. Neither the vehicle’s safety belt system nor its airbag system is designed for them. Add-on child restraints, which are purchased by the vehicle’s owner, are available in four basic types. Selection of a particular restraint should take into consideration not only the child’s weight, height, and age but also whether or not the restraint will be compatible with the motor vehicle in which it will be used. A young child’s hip bones are still so small that the vehicle’s regular safety belt may not remain low on the hip bones, as it should. A booster seat can also help a child to see out the window. 1-50 Securing an Add-On Child Restraint in the Vehicle CAUTION: A child can be seriously injured or killed in a crash if the child restraint is not properly.

Child restraint systems must be secured in vehicle seats by lap belts or the lap belt portion of a lap-shoulder belt, or by the LATCH system. We recommend that children and child restraints be secured in a rear seat, including: an infant or a child riding in a rear-facing child restraint;. When securing a child restraint in a rear seating position, study the instructions that came with your child restraint to make sure it is compatible with this vehicle. The child restraint manufacturer will provide you with instructions on how to use the child restraint and its attachments. The following explains how to attach a child restraint with these attachments in your vehicle. A top tether anchor is built into the vehicle. The top tether attachment (B) on the child restraint connects to the top tether anchor in the vehicle in order to reduce the forward movement and rotation of the child restraint during driving or in a crash. Second Row Seating positions with top tether anchors. Third Row 1-56 (Top Tether Anchor): For the second row seating positions, the top tether anchors are located on the seatback, near the base of each seat. This anchor can accommodate only one top tether. Third Row Do not secure a child restraint in a position without a top tether anchor if a national or local law requires that the top tether be attached, or if the instructions that. In a crash, the child could be seriously injured or killed. Make sure that a LATCH-type child restraint is properly installed using the anchors, or use the vehicle’s safety belts to secure the restraint, following the. Secure any unused safety belts behind the child restraint so children cannot reach them. Pull the shoulder belt all the way out of the retractor to set the lock, if your vehicle has one, after the child restraint has been installed. Refer to the child restraint instructions and the following steps: 2.1. Find the top tether anchor. 2.2. A rear seat is a safer place to secure a forward-facing child restraint.

See Where to Put the Restraint on page 1-52. In addition, your vehicle has a passenger sensing system which is designed to turn off the right front passenger’s frontal airbag and seat-mounted side impact airbag (if equipped) under certain conditions. If your child restraint has the LATCH system, see Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) on page 1-53 for how to install your child restraint using LATCH. Make sure the release button is positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the safety belt quickly if necessary. If your vehicle has this feature, the built-in child restraint is located in the passenger-side position in the second row. A child whose weight is over 40 lbs (18 kg), whose height is over 40 in (1 016 mm) or whose shoulders are above the shoulder belt slots for the harness system should use a restraint system that is appropriate for their. Make sure there is no gap between the lower edge of the head restraint and the top of the seatback. 1-70. Do not use the vehicle’s safety belts. CAUTION: Using the vehicle’s regular safety belts on a child seated on the built-in child restraint cushion can cause serious injury to the child in a sudden stop or crash. Place the harness over the child’s shoulder. 7. Push the latch plate (A) into the buckle until it clicks. Be sure the buckle is free of any foreign objects that may prevent you from securing the latch plates. The clip can be easily pulled apart and is designed to pull apart during a collision. CAUTION: A built-in child restraint harness that is not properly adjusted can cause injury to the child in a sudden stop or collision. On each side of the harness, the shoulder part should be centered on the child’s shoulder. Storing the Built-In Child Restraint Always properly store the built-in child restraint before using the vehicle’s lap-shoulder belt.

Just like the other restraint systems in your vehicle, your built-in child restraint needs to be periodically checked and may need to have parts replaced after a crash. See Checking the Restraint Systems on page 1-91 and Replacing Restraint System Parts After a Crash on page 1-92. Here are the most important things to know about the airbag system: CAUTION:. Do not sit unnecessarily close to the airbag, as you would be if you were sitting on the edge of your seat or leaning forward. The driver’s frontal airbag is in the middle of the steering wheel. 1-80 The right front passenger’s frontal airbag is in the instrument panel on the passenger’s side. If your vehicle has second row captain’s chairs, the seat-mounted side impact airbags (if equipped) are in the side of the seatback closest to the door. Some components of the airbag module may be hot for several minutes. The driver’s airbags are not part of the passenger sensing system. The passenger sensing system works with sensors that are part of the right front passenger’s seat and safety belt. When the passenger sensing system has allowed the airbag or airbags to be enabled, the on indicator will light and stay lit to remind you that the airbag or airbags are active. This may unintentionally cause the passenger sensing system to turn the airbag(s) off for some adult size occupants. If this happens, just let the belt go back all the way and start again. There are parts of the airbag system in several places around your vehicle. To purchase a service manual, see Service Publications Ordering Information on page 7-15. See Passenger Sensing System on page 1-85. If you have any questions about this, you should contact Customer Assistance before you modify your vehicle. A damaged restraint system may not properly protect the person using it, resulting in serious injury or even death in a crash.

To help make sure your restraint systems are working properly after a crash, have them inspected and any necessary replacements made as soon as possible. They could operate the power windows or other controls or even make the vehicle move. The windows will function with the keys in the ignition and they could be seriously injured or killed if caught in the path of a closing. See PASS-Key page 2-29 for more information on programming your new key. Notice: If you ever lock your keys in your vehicle, you may have to damage the vehicle to get in. Be sure you have spare keys. The RKE transmitter shown here is for a vehicle equipped with the remote vehicle start feature and dual power sliding doors. Laws in some local communities may restrict the use of remote starters. When a door is locked, the handle will not open it. You increase the chance of being thrown out of the vehicle in a crash if the doors are not locked. To unlock either front door from the inside, pull back on the manual lever. To lock either front door from the inside, push the manual lever forward. Power Door Locks Your vehicle has power door locks. To change the way the automatic door unlocking operates, see DIC Vehicle Personalization (Uplevel Only) on page 3-76. Lockout Protection The lockout protection feature makes it more difficult to lock the key in the vehicle. To make sure the door does not slam shut be sure to hold it open until everyone is clear of the door, and only then allow it to slowly close. Unlock it by moving the lever up. With the power door locks, the sliding door lock has a delay feature. See Delayed Locking on page 2-12 and DIC Vehicle Personalization (Uplevel Only) on page 3-76. See Power Sliding Door (PSD) on page 2-16. If your vehicle has a single power sliding door (PSD), you have this switch.Passenger PSD Activation Switch If you have a single PSD, this switch is located in front of the passenger side sliding door.
